What are your thoughts on "The Future of Money"?

While the main function of “Money” is often said as a medium of exchange, a unit of account, and a store of value, it also has a socially important role to channel surplus from investors/lenders to investees/spenders. Although invention of the joint stock company system has enabled the management to increase wealth by utilizing capital invested in their company, opportunities for shareholders to express their opinions to the management, through general meeting of shareholders and etc., are limited because of cost. Recent development of blockchain technology will possibly increase opportunities for investors including shareholders to express their opinions to the management with whom they entrusted capital. In this sense, I expect the Future of Money will make it possible to visualize how the money invested is used and to realize how it is connected with society.

"The Future of Money" - What role will your company play?

Since its foundation, Monex Group, Inc. has been aspired to create future of finance, always one step ahead into the times. In the fall of 2017, we announced “The New Beginning” including entering into cryptocurrency related businesses and had Japan's leading cryptocurrency exchange, Coincheck, Inc. join the Group in the spring of 2018. As cryptocurrency is a typical FinTech that makes use of block chain technology, Coincheck will also take part in ICO (Initial Coin Offering) related businesses to issue cryptocurrency to raise funds and seek to offer the new way of investing the money as described above.

I think the " Future of Money" is a power to change the quality and width of life when "how to use" and "how to deal" is carefully thought rather than the “quantity”.

What are your thoughts on "The Future of money"?

It will become an increasingly indispensable tool to improve the quality of life and to design one’s life. The form of money that was only "banknotes and coins" has diversified, spreading as a "means of exchanging value", and now the transfer and exchange of electronic value has become the norm in this era. With new technologies such as blockchain, IoT, AI, AR and VR, we are powered to live more easily, more enjoyable and more prosperous in the future. I think the " Future of Money" is a power to change the quality and width of life when "how to use" and "how to deal" is carefully thought rather than the “quantity”. "Future of Money" can be something common to all, something with the element that meets the needs of users, and can give us various choices in every aspect of our lives. It has the potential to function as a communication facilitator.

"The Future of Money" - What role will your company play?

In order to create the "future of finance one step ahead", Monex Securities has developed and delivered a number of unique services and innovative initiatives using the Monex’s viewpoint. From now on, we will go beyond the area of "securities" by developing services that allows customers to advance with the “Future of Money” and businesses that are directly linked with the "Future of Money " as well as to play a role in connecting people's lives and society with money. To that end, I believe fusion of different cultures and different industries, and aggressive use of new technologies will be the key. Adopting something new gives us an opportunity to re-evaluate about our position and strength, leading to an idea that was never imagined. The greatest significance of leveraging M&A and business alliances lies herewith. We will actively seek our in-house service and business development and the collaboration with other companies for a continued cycle of creation through destruction.

What are your thoughts on "The Future of money"?

Money provides the element of “trust” and, as long as we live in large groups of humans, we need a trusted and convenient vehicle to value goods and services. What has been evolving creatively at an incredible pace are the main economic elements that define money.Starting with money as a means of storing value, it is going increasingly digital, cashless and at our fingertips. This has allowed financial services to penetrate the world’s poorest economies and microbusinesses.Digital money is now evolving in other exciting ways such as cryptocurrencies that are backed by computer power and not by governments. As a means of exchange, we see digital money evolving to become borderless and decentralized. Relentless innovation to eliminate the cost of the middle man and remove borders has given birth to innovations such as peer-to-peer lending, crowdfunding and blockchain. I expect that this fast pace of evolution is only the beginning. We live in very creative times!
